Aaahhh such an enjoyable game! You have such a natural talent for tension and mystery. The storytelling is wonderful and intriguing, and the mood that you crafted and reflected in your design choices and art style is so cohesive and attentive. The way that you chose to use your art and the hazy treatment is very interesting and atmospheric and they suit the story so well. Great artistic choices! If you get the chance to play with sound or some timed affects, definitely go for it. Really inspiring work! Wonderful job and very playable game!

Thank you Alex!!

i really love the dark concept of this game + the imagery you're describing !! it's very unsettling and kept me intrigued throughout the game. there's a couple typos i noticed here-and-there, but otherwise very fantastic work !!

wow this game is intense from start to finish, the atmosphere is really well done! I can almost imagine this being a Japanese horror film or something similar with all the strange/anxiety inducing things happening. It made me need to find out what happens in the end. Really well done job!!

The atmosphere in this game is really heavy. I'm worried as I progress through the game. Really awesome and long dialogues. Makes for a fun experience to rummage around in.

Great work!

Maybe try using the phone’s battery as a variable that triggers things as the battery slowly dies. Circling back to the text message passages, you might give the timed event coding a try. I feel like your game in particular would be even more suspenseful with timed events. I agree with Abe, though— I really like the scrolling quality. It feel reminiscent of scrolling on the phone which makes me feel more like I’m the player and all I have on me is my phone, and I’m freaking out. Keep at it!

Thank you Alex! I am indeed rethinking the variables I have here, I'm wanting to keep it simple and just keep building the atmosphere with images and sounds.

I'm so impressed! You turned a basic interface and presentation into a very compelling set of mechanics. "Scrolling Down" is something we do every day, but in your capable narrative hands, it is an engrossing  game mechanic. Similarly, the switch between first and third persona narrative, and the use of subtle typographic arrangement through the passages really facilitate immersion. All I would say moving forward is to be judicious when adding elements such as images, sound and variables. You have achieved great things with words and links alone. Make sure any new tools you add to your toolbox are here to support your storytelling, and not just clutter it. Good work!

Thank you Abe! I agree with you and Alex on my problem with the variables. I thought adding them to what I had in the first version is a good idea but it is not exactly necessary for my story. I think from this point on I will focus on building the environment though images and sounds. I already have an idea for my next game, maybe I will utilize more of what we learned then.

Such amazing narrative work. I definitely feel your influence from the Rusty Lake games and I’m loving it. The reference back to the phone screen is a really interesting and thoughtful detail that I like. It makes me really curious if it would be worth coding into a separate menu that you can check whenever you want, like an inventory menu? I’m really digging your approach! You made the code and format work for you in a way that produced a very anxiety-inducing game that drew me in with each click. Can’t wait to see how you utilize game art going forward!

Thank you Alex! I look up to Rusty Lake so much! I'd love having the phone as an inventory item, I was thinking of adding things the player can pick up to use or craft with. Also I'm glad that my formatting is working! I was hoping to hear that from my classmates. Thank you for your suggestions! :)

Wow! Fantastic work, the atmosphere is really heavy in this game.

Hehe thanks Zack! I love adding a little bit of horror to my work! :)

this is very good I'm so tense the whole time

Thank you! Goal accomplished for me haha!

This turned out so well!! Very environmental. Loved the ending!!!

Thank you thank you!! hehehe ;)

A immersive setting, I really felt like I had a sense of urgency as I played. The descriptiveness of your story is really on point!

Thank you Sara! I'm really glad that it's working as I wanted

this is really great, katie! super descriptive, and the formatting of text really adds to the urgency of the scenario. very nice dream sequence (or hallucination...?!)

thanks!

Thank you Maren! No spoiler for anyone else that is reading this, but yes your theory is correct!
